Senator Borrello said the compact is crucial for the economic well-being of Western New York and pointed out that the tribe’s casinos provide around US$1 billion every year to the local economy. In exchange for that Native American nation shares 25% of its gambling revenue from its Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, Seneca Allegany Casino, and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino with the state. Under the current compact, Senecas are allowed to operate Class III casinos in Western New York, but the 20-year agreement expires on December 9, 2023, and a new one is yet to be struck. The current deal expires in just over a month, and the senator is urging Governor Kathy Hochul to meet with the tribe’s President Ricky Armstrong Sr. George Borrello, R-57th District has recently highlighted the economic benefit of the Seneca Nation of Indians’ new gambling compact with the Empire State.
